Is the plugin open source and free of charge?
Yes – JStats is completely free and open source under the GNU General Public License v2 (GPLv2). The source code is publicly accessible, so anyone can inspect, modify or enhance it. There are no license keys, no registration and no paid tiers.
Is the plugin compatible with Joomla 3?
No – JStats is built specifically for Joomla 4 and Joomla 5. Joomla 3 reached its end of life and no longer receives security updates; if you are still running it, upgrading your site is the recommended path – JStats will be waiting on the other side.
Does the plugin contain hidden backlinks to SEO NW?
No – there are absolutely no hidden backlinks to SEO NW or any other website. Hidden links are a manipulative SEO practice that can get your site penalized; as a white-hat SEO agency we guarantee that no such links will ever be included. You are welcome to verify this in the source code – it is open.
Does JStats support Matomo, Google Analytics – or both?
Both. JStats inserts whatever tracking code you paste into its configuration into the head section of every page – the official Matomo snippet, a Google Analytics tag, or another compatible tracker. We recommend Matomo for data ownership and privacy, but the choice is yours.
Can JStats track without cookies?
Yes – the optional “Remove Matomo Cookies” setting prevents Matomo from setting cookies, enabling cookieless measurement on your own server. Many site owners run this setup without a consent banner, since no data is stored on the visitor's device – whether that applies to your specific site is a question for your legal advisor, not for a plugin.
How do I update JStats?
The comfortable way: via the built-in Joomla Updater – JStats ships with an update server, so new versions appear directly in your Joomla backend (updater issues from early versions were fixed in 1.0.3 and 1.0.7). Alternatively, simply install the current ZIP over the existing version; your settings are preserved.
Which languages does the plugin speak?
The backend ships with English and German language files (en-GB, de-DE) since version 1.0.5/1.0.6, and the structure is prepared for more. If you would like to contribute a translation, send us an email – credits guaranteed.
Does JStats slow down my website?
No. The plugin adds a single script block to the head section via Joomla's addCustomTag – nothing more. It loads no external libraries of its own; the only request that occurs is the one to your analytics server, which any tracking integration would make.
Why would I exclude menu items from tracking?
Typical cases: internal or staff-only pages, legal pages you don't want in your statistics, thank-you and landing pages measured elsewhere, or test areas. Select the menu items in the plugin settings (Ctrl+click for multiple) – they will no longer receive the tracking code. The demo page shows this step by step.
Where do I report bugs or request features?
By email – the support page explains what a helpful report contains (Joomla version, PHP version, plugin version, tracker type). Feature suggestions are equally welcome: several changelog entries started as user mails.
