What the plugin does
JStats keeps its promise deliberately small. First, it inserts the tracking code you paste into its settings – the official Matomo snippet, a Google Analytics tag, or any compatible tracker – cleanly into the page head via Joomla's addCustomTag, on every page, on nothing but pages. Second, an optional switch removes Matomo's cookies entirely, enabling cookieless, privacy-friendly measurement on your own server. Third, you can exclude selected menu items from tracking – internal pages, legal pages, test areas. That is the whole feature list, and that is the point: no external libraries, no home-calling, no hidden backlinks.
Installation in four steps
- Download the ZIP above – no registration required.
- In the Joomla admin panel, install it via System → Install → Extensions.
- Open the plugin settings and paste your Matomo or Google Analytics tracking code.
- Enable the plugin, save – done. Your analytics tool starts receiving data.
Screenshots of every step are in the documentation; a walk-through of the options lives on the demo page.
System requirements
JStats runs on Joomla 4 and Joomla 5 (Joomla 3 is not supported). The PHP requirements are simply those of your Joomla version itself – PHP 7.2.5 or newer for Joomla 4, PHP 8.1 or newer for Joomla 5; current PHP 8.2/8.3 is recommended and tested.
Why we recommend Matomo
JStats treats both trackers as equals – the recommendation is ours, not the plugin's. With self-hosted Matomo, the analytics data stays on your server: full data ownership, a solid GDPR position, no sharing with advertising networks, no sampling of your reports – and, combined with the cookieless option above, measurement that many site owners run without a consent banner (whether that applies to your site is a question for your legal advisor). Matomo is free and open source, like this plugin. If your workflow lives in the Google ecosystem, Google Analytics works just as well – JStats does not judge.
License, warranty & honesty
JStats is released under the GNU General Public License v2 (GPLv2): free to use, study, modify and share. It is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind – by installing it you accept the GPL terms including the no-warranty clause. And the promise we get asked about most, in writing: the plugin contains no hidden backlinks to SEO NW or anywhere else – verify it in the open source code, details in the FAQ.
Support & ecosystem
Questions, bug reports and feature ideas are welcome on the support page or directly at 301@seo-manager.info. If you also need a home for your Joomla site: our agency offers fast Joomla hosting on German servers – a clearly marked in-house recommendation, not a requirement; the plugin works on any host. And beyond the plugin, the knowledge area answers the Joomla-analytics questions we get asked most.
